the 9/11 lesson

Learning 9/11

The Global Game Changers want to engage in the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, but they don’t know where to start. When they realize one of their own doesn’t know about what happened, they jump into action and find a great way to share 9/11 and inspire service!

AmeriCorps Day of Remembrance

September 11th is Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. THE 9/11 LESSON: Celebrating Real Life Superheroes! is available to all educators and parents nationwide at no cost, thanks to generous funding from Americorps and United Parcel Service (UPS). In special recognition of the challenges encountered by our country in the wake of COVID-19, there is a focus on helping children understand how they can honor the heroes of 9/11 by responding to the hardships of today through self-directed service.

About the 9/11 Site

THE 9/11 LESSON: Celebrating Real Life Superheroes! is an educational experience that engages elementary students in a self-contained interactive multi-sensory, multi-tiered online platform that gives them a personal and in-depth exploration of 9/11 and culminates in meaningful service projects. Using our online environment, students will be able to participate in-class or at-home through hands-on activities, community-oriented service projects, and interactive galleries.

GGC Visits Your School

Global Game Changers has some limited capacity through our AmeriCorps grant for the 9/11 National Day of Service to visit schools both in-person and virtually in the days and weeks around 9/11. For all visits, GGC will provide a trained educator and supplies at no cost. Each lesson lasts 45-90 minutes, and provides an interactive, age-appropriate, and and meaningful experience. Students will walk away better understanding the events of 9/11 and inspired by the heroes of the past to become the heroes we need today. If you are interested, please email us to schedule a visit.

Sidewalk Chalk Positive Message

In the Global Game Changers picture book, Never Forget 9/11: Love Always Wins, Pia teams up with Jayden to defeat apathy-spreading Krumi. Together they used their Talents to make sure no one forgets the lessons of strength, unity, and love.

Using Jayden’s Talent for chalk graffiti and Pia’s knack for filming, you can use your Superpower to create a sidewalk chalk art message remembering 9/11, thanking a member of your community, or just sending a positive, hopeful message!

Plant a Survivor Tree

While cleaning up Ground Zero, rescue workers discovered a tree beneath the rubble. This Callery pear tree suffered from burns and many broken branches and roots. With diligent care from the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, the tree recovered and is now known as the Survivor Tree.

Now it’s your turn to share the message of regrowth and survival! Often, people plant trees in honor of great people. To honor the survivors, you can nurture and grow a tree for your own community. Any type of tree will do!

Contribute to the Commemorative Book

Be part of something special: a 20th Anniversary Commemorative Book honoring and remembering the real-life heroes of 9/11 from the heart of children across America. At Global Game Changers we believe actions speak louder than words, especially as it applies to the powerful and important words “Never Forget 9/11”. This service project will serve as a way to speak loudly through action and ensure that the youth of today and the youth of tomorrow, truly Never Forget 9/11. It will be presented to the NYC, Pentagon, and Shanksville memorials in 2021 and serve as an online visual and printed tangible commemorative gift that will survive for generations.
