Global Game Changers, Official Partner of the Miss America Opportunity, Sought out Titleholders Who Are Elementary School Educators for its Scholarship

Hayley Peters, 2nd Grade Teacher at Derry Village School has been awarded the $2500 Global Game Changers Teaching Scholarship. As an official partner of the Miss America Opportunity, Global Game Changers opened the scholarship competition to contestants or titleholders in the Miss America Opportunity who are current or aspiring elementary school teachers.

Global Game Changers Student Empowerment Program, which currently reaches 250,000 students in all 50 states and 13 countries, is a project-based program that provides teacher-tested, evidence-based, FREE Pre-K – 5th grade curriculum and resources that use service learning and talent development as tools to nurture children’s social, emotional, leadership, and academic growth. With a motto to IGNITE GOOD!®, the lessons use a simple equation: MY TALENT + MY HEART = MY SUPERPOWER!® to lay the foundation for nurturing engaged and successful citizens and leaders. Students explore their hearts, uncover their true talents, and develop the self-confidence they need to succeed.

“We’re thrilled to award Hayley Peters this scholarship to continue her commitment to serving her community as an educator,” says Jan Helson, Co-Founder and Board Chair for Global Game Changers. “She stood out to the Scholarship Committee for her strong commitment to education as both a teacher and titleholder, her care for her students, and her willingness to think outside of the box to encourage learning.”

At Derry Village School, Ms. Peters is not only a 2nd grade teacher, but also serves on the school’s data team and the PTA.  She holds the title Miss Greater Derry within Miss New Hampshire/Miss America Opportunity. As part of her Community Service Initiative with that organization, “Turning the Page: The Need to Read,” she has collected and distributed over 2,000 books to local New Hampshire students.

“I’m thrilled to accept this award from Global Game Changers, particularly as an organization committed to building leadership skills in elementary school students,” says Hayley Peters. “It will help me to expand my knowledge base to continue doing what I set out to do when I decided to become a teacher: to make an impact on my students that will shape them into kind, empathetic people who will become future leaders in our community.”
