Announcing the Winners of the 2022 IGNITE GOOD!® Challenge for Students

IGNITE GOOD!® Challenge Rewards Excellence in Student-Designed Service Projects

Judges Who Helped Select The Winners of the Inaugural IGNITE GOOD!® Challenge Include Celebrity Anti-bullying Advocate Jaylen Arnold, University of Louisville Professor Dr. Ann Larson, and Regional Director for School-Age Child Care of Louisville, Lisa Middelton

We’re excited to announce the winners of the inaugural IGNITE GOOD!® Challenge. After a year of implementing the GGC curriculum, students put their unique Superpower Equation (MY TALENT + MY HEART = MY SUPERPOWER!®) into action by completing a service project that combines their talents with a cause close to their heart.

The superhero winners are Rhett Berwick (K-1 Individual Class), Elon Dupon (K-1 Individual Homeschool), Cameron Neeley (2-3 Group),  and Payton Downey (4-5 Individual). Each of these students was asked to present their service project in a video accompanied by a PowerPoint slide document following the GGC philosophy of the organization’s Superpower Equation. Winners received their prizes today, on May 18, GGC’s newly established national Kids IGNITE GOOD! Day. 

The honorees are recognized for their excellence and are awarded with prizes for themselves, their classroom, and their charity. The IGNITE GOOD!® Challenge entries were submitted by teachers across the country in the GGC educator portal. The deadline for applications was May 2. Applicants were scored by a panel of three judges: Jaylen Arnold (featured on CNN & Ellen DeGeneres Show), Dr. Ann Larson (professor at University of Louisville), and Lisa Middelton (Regional Director for School-Age Child Care of the Louisville YMCA).

Criteria for judging included:

• Creativity: How has the student expressed individuality and creativity in the project? 
• Planning: How effectively and comprehensively did the student plan the project?
• Execution: How meaningful and effectively did the student execute the project?
• Impact: What impact did the project have on the student or the community they helped?
• Presentation: How effective was their slide deck and video in explaining their project?
