Providing a flexible and robust curriculum, Global Game Changers supplies existing childcare providers with the tools they need to impact a generation of school-aged superheroes to change the world.
AT A GLANCE
Global Game Changers Out-of-School Time curriculum is being used in YMCA Programs, Community Centers, Boys & Girls Club, and other afterschool and summer facilities to provide a unique high-quality service-learning curriculum to the kids that they reach.
The YMCA is the largest providers of quality out-of-school time care in the country and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Global Game Changers collaboration with YMCA of Greater Louisville is one of our strongest and most impactful relationships.
The GGC curriculum is intentional, flexible, and easy to administer. It allows the YMCA to realize three goals:
- Fulfill their pillar of social responsibility
- Provide intentional programming to children year round
- Measure the success of the program through intentional evaluation
Using the program toolkits and student activity books, the GGC out-of-school time program allows students to explore different charitable causes, develop their talents, hone their social-emotional skills, learn from other children’s examples, and ultimately create their own individual service project, using their talents to serve causes they care about. Through project based learning they learn to make a personal connection to giving back and making the world a better place.
50 students from Young Elementary get to come [to the Ali Center] and they get opportunities that the wouldn't have. It's sort of a second shift of freshness and ideas that students get to benefit from.
Dr. Donna Hargens Superintendent, Jefferson County (KY) Public Schools
Many of these children are told far too often, in a hundred subtle and unsubtle ways, that they’re not important, that they’re not talented, and that they can’t make a difference. They will now be spending every afternoon learning the opposite — that each of us has the ability, and the responsibility, to make our corner of the world a little better for our having been here.
Justin Walker Executive Director of the Global Game Changers
The GGC curriculum allowed me to teach lessons across core content standards. It also gave me the opportunity to model, teach, as well as have experiences that had compassion at the very heart of what we did as a class. I feel like my students left my class this year with an invisible cape attached to their backs as they enter first grade.
Jessica Forst Kindergarten Teacher, Auburndale Elementary, Louisville, KY
The educational program is not only fun and interactive for the students, but it also changes the way that the students interact with each other and with our school community. The program itself is extremely organized and teacher friendly. It’s amazing how one program can guide so much positive change in a classroom and in individual students.
