#GiveLocalLou Rally

As a chill fall wind blew during lunchtime on October 1, over 100 Louisville nonprofits, including GGC, were setting up on 4th Street Live for the Community Foundation of Louisville’s #GiveLocalLou Rally. Give Local Louisville is an annual event where Louisville nonprofits urge their supporters to donate through the Community Foundation of Louisville in order to receive the proportionate match. A proportionate match pool was generated and increased by each online donation from midnight to midnight on the 1st. Although the Rally is brand new, this was the 2nd Annual Give Local Louisville – now the biggest day of giving in the community.

At the rally, several nonprofits were given stage time and did many different activities from a percussion experience to a scene from Romeo and Juliet. Whether you came to enjoy lunch in the area or support your favorite nonprofit organization, it was an amazing experience! The rally allowed people to reach out to potential partners, and learn about causes in our community. Many well-known organizations were there such as Goodwill, WaterStep, The Humane Society, the Girl Scouts and the Crusade for Children as well as several lesser known nonprofits like Medwater, who provides global health education, Paws with Purpose, who provides dogs to those with disabilities, and Girls on the Run which teaches girls self-confidence and the importance of being healthy. There were nonprofits representing all spectrums of the causes we Louisvillians are passionate about!

One of the most exciting occurrences at the rally came from the Swope family of Sam Swope Auto Group. After a percussion presentation by Strive, a nonprofit that provides arts and wellness education and services, the Swope family came onstage and shocked everyone with an amazing donation. Telling each nonprofit to look under their table, Patti Swope revealed that the Swope Family Foundation would be donating $1,000 to each group participating in Give Local Louisville, for a total of $362,000!

Although Give Local Louisville is over, donations are always welcome and encouraged  by the nonprofits in the Louisville community! Many cannot function without the financial support of people like you, people who care about what goes on in their city. Those of us at Global Game Changers had an awesome time reaching out to locals and learning from the other groups! We are so grateful for the donations given at the rally and those given online! We look forward to next year’s Give Local Louisville and we hope to see you there!
