It was another exciting week at the Global Game Changers Headquarters. Though the snowfall covered the city of Louisville, it couldn’t stop our student’s warm hearts from radiating and spreading joy within the community. Some of our YMCA CEP afterschool programs are beginning to wind down and come to their final sessions this week; how time flies when you’re having fun! Students are excited to complete their superhero equations and prepare for their final celebration as they become members of the GGC family!

This week our students at Jeffersontown took their time allotted for the GGC program and put it towards creating something special for those in need. Students came together to create a fleece blanket that they will donate to their Family Resource Center. All of the students took part in helping make the blanket and were excited to give it away to someone who could use some heat during these cold Louisville nights! It’s amazing to see how grateful the students are to have the opportunity to give back in any way that they can. It’s also inspiring to see how this one simple act radiates throughout their actions afterwards as students were joyful and gracious, staying kind and mindful to their fellow classmates as everyone took turns contributing!

At McFerran Elementary students prepared to learn about the Health badge. They came together to create questions in preparation for their guest speaker- Rakesh Gadde, a UofL Dental School student who will be teaching the kids about oral hygiene. Along with the questions, students got active as their site director used their brains while getting some exercise in! She’d ask the students questions about healthy practices- if the answer was yes then they would jump and if the answer was no then they’d drop to the ground. Students were quite literally on their toes as they learned the importance of health and how to live healthy lifestyles!

Though it was a week that postponed some of our afterschool programs- this week they’ll be back in full gear! Each school has been preparing lists of group projects for their students to perform so that they can truly give back to our community! As we are nearing the end of our programs, students will be deciding what projects to perform. We can’t wait to see what they come up with and we especially can’t wait to share the amazing creativity and genuine compassion that our programs will produce!
