5 Tips to Teach Your Children Philanthropy This Holiday Season

The Global Game Changers co-author Jan Helson wants to help all parents nurture a lifetime of giving back.  So she’s been working on some great tips to help parents do just that!  Here’s an excerpt from her post on Practical Parenting…with a Twist:

The holiday season is a wonderful time to start teaching children about philanthropy and the joys of giving.

Here are a few simple tips to help your child reveal their inner superhero!

1. Discuss how important it is to give as well as to receive.

2. Engage in giving as a family.

3. Cultivate their passion.

4. Unleash their talents.

5. Embrace their individuality and re-enforce that they can make a difference. Help your children learn Ebeneezer Scrooge’s lesson: “”I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.” Now that your children know about giving, help them continue to give throughout the year!
