Global Game Changers is looking for bright members of our community looking to make a difference in the lives of at-risk elementary schoolchildren in partnership with AmeriCorps.

Job Description: Join us as an educator for our free, high-quality afterschool programs. Additional Duties: Teach intentional GGC curriculum to a classroom of approximately 15 students. Prepare supplies and classroom facilities for assigned group. Facilitate student service projects in conjunction with GGC staff. Promote GGC partnerships through participation at and facilitation of events. Participate in Days of Service and other programs in partnership with AmeriCorps/CNCS. Support volunteers and speakers facilitated for the program by GGC staff. Attend appropriate trainings on any classroom to be overseen. Engage in select fundraising activities for the purpose of expanding GGC programs. (*Background check required.)

Time Commitment: 900 hours completed from 9/1/17 – 8/31/2018 (may end prior to that)

  • School year: requirement of 4:00 – 6:00/6:30 Monday – Thursday to lead/support a classroom plus time for preparation and debrief on a flexible basis
  • Summer: 4-6 hours/day, 5 days/week for 5-6 weeks in the summer
  • Additional training and volunteer work to fill the required 900 hours

AmeriCorps Benefits:

  • Living allowance: $6,315 for the year
  • Education Award: $2,907.50 for the year (can be used to pay back loans or for education costs moving forward, within 7 years)

The VISTA project provides at-risk and high-poverty students with access to high quality in-school and out-of-school time programs that engage them in lessons that support their development. Programs will seek to enhance social-emotional skills and power skills as well as give students the knowledge that they can make a difference and how they can make a difference, to instill confidence and build social networks, and improve academic and behavioral outcomes. VISTA members will oversee the expansion of programs to reach new students, the measurement of those programs, and the creation of events and programs that build the capacity of the organization.

The Curriculum & Program Facilitator VISTA will support program implementations through training, assessment, review, and piloting in order to ensure long-term sustainability of programs. S/he will build the capacity of Global Game Changers and partner organizations to implement the curriculum to achieve maximum impact. S/he will tailor curriculum assets to suit individual programs and work with the staff to develop a universal curriculum for use at any site. S/he will also work toward the implementation of existing programs, including: ensuring adherence to the mission of the Global Game Changers program & the high level of quality required by the program; troubleshooting problems; keeping detailed program records and observations; monitoring impact on low-income children; gathering relevant data for program evaluation.

The GGC VISTA will work on enhancing development opportunities for the purposes of sustaining and building programs by researching and applying for grants, assisting staff in cultivating individual and corporate donors and developing and coordinating fundraising events, assisting in the creation of a long-term development strategy, and attending events to support and develop funding relationships. S/he will also work toward the implementation and sustainability of existing and new programs, including: ensuring adherence to the mission and the high level of quality required by the program; troubleshooting problems; keeping detailed program records and observations; monitoring impact on low-income children; gathering relevant data for program evaluation. Requirements: research experience, creativity, flexibility, attention to detail and accuracy, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to multi-task, and strong organizational skills. A car is also required.

The GGC VISTA will conduct volunteer recruitment, training, and support by refining materials, developing a volunteer tracking database, and maintaining relationships with volunteers. The VISTA will also plan and coordinate out-of-school-time events by reaching out to partners, in-kind donors, and refining strategy documents, event timelines, and other relevant material. S/he will also work toward the implementation and sustainability of existing programs, including: ensuring adherence to the mission of the Global Game Changers program, and the high level of quality required by the program; troubleshooting problems; keeping detailed program records and observations; monitoring impact on low-income children; gathering relevant data for program evaluation. Requirements: people skills, creativity, flexibility, attention to detail, written & verbal communication skills, research skills, ability to multi-task, and strong organizational skills. A car is also required.

The GGC VISTA will work on improving outreach for the purposes of sustaining and building programs by managing all of GGC’s traditional and social media. S/he will help manage the website and create videos for various purposes. S/he will develop ongoing strategies and will be responsible for building awareness about new and existing programs. S/he will also work toward the implementation of existing programs including: ensuring adherence to the mission of the Global Game Changers program & the high level of quality required by the program; troubleshooting problems; keeping detailed program records; monitoring impact on low-income children; gathering relevant data for program evaluation. Requirements: familiarity with marketing/PR, video editing software, website development, social media platforms & analytics, creativity, flexibility, attention to detail, written & verbal communication skills, ability to multi-task and strong organizational & analytical skills. A car is also required.
